“I want to do this, but I just don’t have time.”

I hear this a lot when people ask for my help.

Today, I’ll share my advice for how you can make time for your goals without burning out.

P.S. yesterday, we learned about aligning your actions with your values (catch up on previous posts here and leave a comment).

Audit your daily tasks

Add 1 for anything that gives you energy.

Subtract 1 for anything that drains energy.

Neutral things can be a 0.

At the end of your day, tally everything up and see if you end up with a positive or negative number.

To prevent burnout, try to end with a positive number - do more things that bring you energy.

Combine tasks if you consistently end the day with a negative number

This is what I did before I ever saw this Tweet.

If doing chores (-1) drain energy…

Combine them with something you enjoy, like listening to music or a podcast (+1).

The task will end up being neutral (+0) or positive (+1, since you feel productive).

What tasks will you combine?

Examples:

  • Exercise + time with friends (by exercising with a friend)

  • Reading (audiobook) + going for a walk

  • Attending meetings + stretching

Reply to this email and let me know what you’ll combine!
